Last year, Emily's mom received a gift of baked goods as a thank you. Emily watched her mom’s delight at the thoughtful gesture and recognized it as 'Delicious and more creative than flowers.' She loved the concept. She also sought a way to give back to the world by contributing a portion of the price to charity. So Baking For Good was born. Baking For Good is an online bake sale where customers can buy and send made-to-order sweets and 15% of each purchase goes to a charity of the person’s choosing. Financially, Emily backed the entire project herself and brought a design studio and a development team on board to make it happen. One by one, she recruited an impressive list of non-profits and charities to give customers a selection of causes for the contribution. The site launched in 2009 and was met with rave reviews, including the elite acknowledgment of Daily Candy, Health Magazine, and Entrepreneur Magazine. Since launch, orders have shipped to all 50 states, Emily has formed over 100 partnerships with nonprofits and community fundraisers, and she projects $20,000 in donations in 2010.
