Excellent venues for socializing and networking, parties and corporate events are also culprits of extreme waste. Countless pounds of uneaten food and plastic ware fill the world's landfills and contribute to growing environmental crises. Emily Doubilet recognized this problem as she planned events for sustainable countertop company, Ice Stone in Brooklyn, NY. Where were the biodegradable products? Where was the information on composting? How could she make her events greener? There was nothing out there. So she pulled a "weekend warrior" move and started Sustainable Party while working her 9-5 job to provide the answers to these questions. Sustainable Party is an online resource for people who want to "green" their event. They provide bio-degradable bowls, cups, plates and flatware, instructional signage, as well as a best practices guide to throwing eco-conscious events. She now shares ownership with Credit Suisse-alum, Jessica Holsey. Together, they spend their time carrying out orders, creating partnerships and finding new ways to make the nation's parties as eco-friendly as possible.
