What a way to start your life and career!! I am sure that not everyone would be as adventurous as these four friends who knew and believed that they had to go out there and do something different and connect that with the profession that they wanted for themselves!! It was certainly an interesting account of the making of their documentary Our Time and as Matt said, that is what made it possible for him to realize what he wanted to do as a profession!!

Nice to know about your current project on "voice of America's youth" and it is very interesting to know that still this country has diversity in its own way. Moreover, I am planning to see your video "Our Time" so that I can also have some improvement in my project too. Actually, I am writing a thesis on "chickasaw history" collecting data from all or parts of 13 Oklahoma counties. I want to demenstrate their tribe and culture in different way. Hope I will complete it soon.

I must say what started out as an adventurous trip not only did end well for them but also started the era of such wonderful documentaries. Our Time is certainly one of the most eye opening and fascinating documentaries I have ever witnessed. Matt and the others deserve all the credits for coming up with something like this. I am glad to hear he joined Alzheimer’s project on HBO and hopefully he will come up with wonderful film projects.

I think there is a huge disadvantage of a gap year - getting back into study mode is very difficult. Thanks for sharing this interesting article.

This is definitely a great idea for some students but not all. I think a lot of students get a lot out of taking a year off. Know there is some people that cannot do this because they will not come back.
